Status Update in Profile

Just a thought.

Sometimes we don't see activity from a member for a while and begin to wonder. A lot of times they may have mentioned something in a thread about being away, off on safari or a walk about, sabbatical, major assignment, secret mission, etc., but thinking it would be nice to have a status box somewhere obvious. Thought about using the location field or the message section of the profile, but not as friendly as would be a dedicated field.

If I don't see @scott for a while, two things come to mind. He's either off to some exotic destination , or got eaten by a crocodile.:grief:

Lol! Me thinks you just tagged the wrong Scott! Did you mean Scott Murray ? ;) One thing I've noticed is that some members are tagging the wrong person--especially when there is a space in their user name. You have to include the space. Otherwise you either tag the wrong person or don't wind up tagging anyone.

Here's the list of Scott's. http://nikonites.com/members/list/s21.html#axzz3JowWflJC

So we want to turn this into Facebook?

You can always look at a user's profile and see their last activity date to know if they're still around. I appreciate the idea of community, but sometimes you're just away. I like you guys a lot, but if I'm not here it's because I'm not here. Give me a status to update and it'll go unupdated.

I believe you missed the point, perhaps due to my poor communication skills.

Some forums use them and I've never thought any of them resembled Facebook. And they usually are on the profile page, so another member has to go looking to find it, just like you would to see the Last Activity date, except you would also see a short explanation, should the member want to leave one.

The idea is not for a daily play by play of ones life, but simply a spot to put info that some people already put up in various places.
