Posting images for monthly assignments: Query?

Hello,

I'm a bit confused and was looking for a little help/clarification. I'm unsure how to post an decent preview image size and be within the rules of the monthly assignments.

Its complying with this rule that i have fallen foul of in the past: "Photos must be posted to the thread in order to be considered for the challenge. Links to photos will not be considered an entry."

If i'm not mistaken it means that when we upload an image from a url you need to click the box that says "Retrieve remote file and reference locally". Is this right? As whenever i do this i end up with a pretty small preview of my image. Its doesn't look great. I much prefer to have my images posted an a decent size, not huge, but at a size that allows the viewer to get a decent look at it. I certainly prefer looking at other members images without having to click on a small preview. Other members for the most part seem to be able to post larger previews, what am i missing? How do i comply with the rules and have a decent size preview?

I prefer to upload to flickR straight from LightRoom.. can i post links from flickR within these rules. FlickR has changed and there are a number of ways to share from it, but i'm unsure how to use them within the rules.

Thanks for any help

I started an album in my gallery called competition and load into that, then choose my photos when posting, personally i hate links as at some point the picture often vanishes and spoils the thread

Nope that's not right. You should upload it directly from your machine meaning a folder on your pc/mac not from a URL. You're linking it the way you are doing it.

I don't think you are correct. If you tick the box "Retrieve remote file and reference locally" it does what it says, retrieve remote file and reference locally.

But that is not my issue, my issue is how to not have a very small preview, or in other words how to I change the preview size. Most other people achieve this, but I can't figure out how.

OK, once you've uploaded your picture, click on the "go advanced" button in the bottom right. Then, there will be a window that will open that will contain your picture and another window in the bottom. Go to the smaller window in the bottom, double click on your photo. Another window will open with photo size options and click "full size". Then, don't forget to go back down the bottom of your post and click accept changes or save and post.

This is how I do it.

Excellent, I'll try that, thanks Marcel.

That worked Marcel.. the trick is double clicking on the preview. I would never have found that. thanks.

Well that's how I do it. LOL I click "Insert Image", then click on the "From Computer" tab, then "Select File", then there's a pop up and you choose from the directory list what image you want to upload. And then it shows up on the tab, and then click on "Upload File(s)" and that's it.

Yeah that is how you post an image from your PC. But you can use a url and chose to have the image stored locally. This will fulfill the criteria of the assignment. But it was changing the size of the posted image that I was having trouble with not how you post it. Cheers.

I personally don't store jpgs on my PC, only RAW, when I share images I export them straight from LightRoom to Flickr or similar service as a jpeg, hence sharing from a url is much easier for me. Otherwise I end up exporting to Flickr as a jpeg, downloading it and then uploading it again to nikonites... which is silly.
