Tagging Members

Just wondering if it's possible to have a tagging system one can mention a persons name in a post & they get a notification saying their presence maybe requested in some thread.
I know there is something like this in SalesForce & i guess something similar exists on FaceBook.

It would be very helpful in a number of ways

I don't think there is a way WhiteLight. Maybe when John comes on he will know. You are right though it would be nice.

​Did you finally get up and running on your Facebook page? If you look under our names by the posts you can see the links to the facebook accounts for those of us who have made that public.

I have used this on another forum and it works well.
I believe it's an @username deal to mention another user in a post.

I think it would be nice. So many times I mention someone in a post that is not necessarily their post but I would like for them to see it. Also sometimes I see a post and I know that person X knows a lot about that topic but they may not see that post to comment on it. Being able to tag someone might get more activity in the forum.

Sounds cool to me, though I doubt I'll get a lot of notices of being talked about! Lol Maybe in a few years (about 20 lol)I'll be a good enough photographer I might get mentioned now and then! Lol
But it does sound cool to me! :D

There may be a thread that I see about an area of photography that I know you have been working on and asking questions about. Tagging you in that thread may help you to see it where without the tag you might have missed it.

Have been doing that..
I was thinking of opening an 'artist' page linked to my account for my photography.
They don't seem to have an option for 'photographer'
I hope to get it all wrapped up this weekend :)

EDIT: I see the "Mentions" tab in my user profile, and that tab has link-backs to posts where there are mentions, but I'm not getting any sort of specific notification (like you'd get for an incoming PM) nor do I see any new options in my user profile.

I received TWO email notifications--one for being tagged and the other for being quoted. I have email notifications set for subscribed threads. I'm going to take a look at my profile settings to see if the notifications can be fine tuned.
