Looking For Lightrom 5 Book -

I'm looking for a great book on Lightroom use. I prefer something other than a text like book. I don't want "for dummies", or anything like that. I'm not really partial to Kelby either. Trying to keep the price down, and hope someone has read and can recommend a great book "for a dummy". In fairness to myself, I have learned a lot abou Lightroom on my own, and through their online manual, but I feel I'm still missing some key elements. I've got the time to put into a great book, and figure it's time to learn how to use Lightroom effectively. Thanks.

You might consider subscribing to Lynda.com for a month for $25; it's a fantastic resource and, with very little effort, you can download the videos to your computer and keep them even after your subscription runs out.

What the Fish said. Tim Grey did a great 7 part series on Lightroom, and there's a great lesson on Color Correction in Lightroom by Taz Tally. Well worth the $25 for the month, and if I wasn't able to renew my KelbyOne subscription at $99/year I would surely invest in subscribing to Lynda.com instead of the Kelby site. I raided as much information as possible from there during the month-long memebership I got from the 5 Day Deal that was posted. Ben Long does a lesson on lighting and flash that forever fixed my broken mind on what it is I'm supposed to do with artificial light. Great lesson site. I suspect I'll be dropping $25-50/year to go back and pull off new stuff as it goes up. And they cover SO much more than just photography.

Here's a look at their Lightroom offerings...

For $25..... You can 't save the lessons. You have to choose the higher priced packages in order to view them later and save them.

Does Google have a video downloader helper?

No, it's a Firefox add-on. I am no fan of Google and the information they collect, but that said, if you want to use Chrome, use it - but install Firefox and this add-on for those moments when you are watching streaming video that you know you'll want to see again. I've got about 80GB of lessons waiting for me when I have the time. Plus a bunch of concert footage that was removed within days of original posting. :)

I just want to point out that The Lightroom Queen is the author of one of the books I mentioned earlier. Chris, to answer your question on which LR book I use the most, it's a tie between the 1st and the 3rd books I listed (Bampton's and Evening's books). Sometimes one will offer a more in depth explanation than the other, but I can't say one is better than the other. It all depends upon the specific problem. I don't think you could go wrong with either one. The one put out by Adobe is okay, but if you are going to choose just one, either go with Bampton's or Evening's. :)

There seems to be a lot from lynda.com on youtube.com. So far, I've found all I have needed in Adobe's Classroom in a Book and online.

Most of what I've seen are teasers and excerpts from full lessons. The first 2 segments of the LR course are 3 1/2 and 2 3/4 hours each, so take a rainy Sunday and you still might not finish the first two chapters. It's real classroom training, plus they include exercise files so you can do exactly what they're doing.
