Hello,
I am a beginner and would like to focus on tabletop product photography. I am considering to buy a Nikon D90 body to practice and get started. What lens/es is/are recommended?

Thank you

D90 is a great camera to work with a tabletop setup. I would however recommend the 40mm F2.8 macro to do work. With the macro ability it will give you very sharp images at a 1:1 ratio and the ability to crop into the image without much loss of quality.

I agree I used the D90 for a long time for product work. I would however recommend a least a 60mm macro or even the older 105mm macro you can get them cheaper than the new one. The reason is the 60 and 105 will give you a longer working distance from lens to subject. So it is less apt to cast shadows from the camera to the subject, if you should need to photograph shiny or glossy surfaces.

Don't know what kind of products you have in mind, but macro lenses might limit your DOF, unless you're into focus stacking. I think a 35 might be a bit wide on DX. You can't go wrong having a fifty and can pick up a 1.8 for around $100. Whatever you get, a good lighting setup and knowledge of how to use it will make or break your shots.

Also wanting to reiterate, depending on the type of table top setup you would be going with, would this end up being a deshadow type box? If so then you need less to worry about... However a 60 or 105mm may put you further out then you really want to be from the subject... Once again however it depends on setup.
