Anyone Gone From A D7100 to a D810?

I have a D7100, D610 and D810. I started with the D7100 and love(d) it. I knew I was going to get an FX body and got the D610 and then the D810 when it came out. Each has it's uses and I really love all three. As far as lenses, I know that these bodies are only as good as the glass, so I got the trinity of 2.8 zooms and they really bring out the best in these cameras. Of course the dx 7100 sees these lenses differently and that's one reason I'm keeping it. For macro, I got a 60mm 2.8 macro that sees it as 90mm on the 7100 and works wonderfully. And the 105 2.8 macro is perfect on the fx bodies. I use the 610 as a workhorse and use the 810 for when I'm looking to really get the best results I am able to and have already done my homework. If you're getting a D810, I'd suggest getting the best lens you can afford and for the uses that suit your style of photography. I can attest to the great images that the 24-70 2.8 and the 70-200 2.8 VRII produce, but they are very pricey. A really good inexpensive lens is the 50mm G 1.4 and the 1.8 is also very good. Actually I have the 50mm 1.8D that I got new for less than $100 and it is really nice as well. Good luck with your D810, it's a beast!!

I have a 50mm 1.8G and Sigma 105mm HSM macro which I hope are good enough to be used with a D810. I also have a Nikkor 16-85mm and Tamron 70=300mm which I assume WON'T be suitable for the D810... Am I right?

I'm undecided if I want to folk out the money for a D810 or other FX models. If I do, I have my eye on the 24-120 F4 for a general purpose lens. The Tamron 24-70 F2.8 looks good too but not sure if I woukd need both as they both cover similar Focal lengths. The 70-200 VR2 is really so expensive. Any good Tamron or Sigma alternatives?

Zutty summed it up well. I sold my D7100/600 to buy the 810. It's just awesome but I mss my d700... The best aps c sensor DSLR IMHO.

I'm planning on keeping the D7100 for the DX sensor, but also add the D810 for the FX capabilities. That is/was my master plan and why I moved from the D5300 to the D7100 as soon as I did. At this point, my glass purchases are all focused on that direction.

If I go FX, I'd keep my DX too. The lenses that interest me are:

- Tamron 70-200 2.8 VC
- Tamron 24-70 2.8 VC
- Nikon 24-120 f4

Although I'm concerned that the last two are too similar. I really want the extra reach though as a walkabout lens.

Even though I have the 24-120/f4 as my walkabout lens, I still have eyes on the 24-70mm/f2.8 and 70-200mm/f2.8. The 70-200mm/f2.8 is probably my next lens for the extra reach over the 24-120 as well as the speed and TC compatibility. The 24-70mm/f2.8 would be a follow-up if I spend more time indoors or in lighting where I need that extra lens speed in the shorter focal lengths.

I want to get quality glass, while im sure the Sigma is adequate, it doesn't match the sharpness of the Nikon from what I read on the net. The Tamron version however does seem to come closer. I may want to get that one.

You can get a used nikon 70-200vr1 for less than $1300.

But I can get a new tamron with better vr and sharper new for the same price as that vr1. That's what I'm leaning to. It's expensive to get all this gear, I'd have to think about this. Thanks for all your comments but if you took the same shot with a D7100 and a D810, could you tell the difference? (assuming you're using quality glass)

Where can I see comparison shots between the D7100 and D810? I did a quick Google search but couldn't find much use. Does anyone here have some comparison shots? Doesn't have to be the same image, just so I can see

EDIT: AC016, what do your images show? I'm confused

Currently using the 24-120 f4 and the 50mm f1.4G on my D810 and more than happy with the results.

Saving for the 85mm f1.8 for paid portrait work.

Loving the quality from the D810 and it is a very different animal to my D3s that I traded in.........shoulder is very grateful!

I picked up my D810 today and like you will also be keeping my D7100. I really like the D7100 and it works well for a lot of what I do.
