Knock-off D800 grip vs Nikon D800 grip

I am all for aftermarket grips. Nikon has been ripping us off for a while on the price of grips. I have had no issues with my flashpoint or Vivitar grip

Yup, I agree. I can't see the reasoning for Nikon to be charging so much for their grips. Although I have a real Nikon grip for my D200, my D40 grip is a Mieke, and it works just fine. It even came with 2 batteries......all for $50!

I bought the $70 Mielke. They are ok for start but they usually crap out after a year or so based on my experience with my ex-D700 grip. I'm ok with this until Nikon lowers their battery grip price or if they go on sale. $400 is just too much for a battery grip.

Not really sure how that's possible. If something goes wrong with your camera you just tell them the problem and send it to them and they fix it. Were a grip to cause a problem, which I doubt, it would be next to impossible for Nikon to know the grip caused it since they don't even ask such questions.

Indeed, but I am curious if this is true. I can't see how it is because there are tons of 3rd party products made for camera brand from Lens to flashes.

But, since it was brought up, worth discussing. News to me. I was going to call them today but didn't find the time.
