Trouble with my MB-D12

Hey guys!

I just wanted to try too get a answer from you guys before I'm going to a Nikon store. I recently bought my 2nd D800 camera with the MB-D12.
At my latest wedding job I realized there might be something wrong with the grip.

The Joystick, first of all it feels really sensitive, I can only lay my finger on the button and it starts to zoom into 100 %.
The same thing happens if I push the button to the left, up and down, the only button that seems to work as it should is the right-button and the middle button.

I tried my other grip on the same camera just to see so the errors's not in the D800 and with the other grip it worked perfectly.

Have any other D800 owners experienced this or do anyone else have a guess on the reason?

Happy for answers!

not to make your cut sting more but its the reason why I never buy an OEM grip. if it breaks or needs repair it will cost a lot. it may just be some dirt inside and u might consider using some pressurized air. otherwise I think id just get a 3rd party pixel or meike grip for $80. the repair will certainly cost close to that. I think $370 is just too much for what a battery grip does.

I'm having a slight battery drain, but no issues like you've described! But as mentioned a bit of grit making the buttons react over sensitively! But if possible I'd have the grip checked out under warranty, because it could also be a defect in craftsmanship, who knows!

PS. Just checked mine and all is working right. No issues, thank goodness. :)

Weird! My first message got posted twice lol

Thx for the welcoming! I'm fully aware of the 3rd part grips, I have one of them on my 2nd D800 and I will only check with a store if they know the reason or a proposal for a price....I will not fix it if it's too expensive. Then I just use the joystick on the camera...

Really bad first experience of the Mb-D12 which cost a lot of money, n my 3rd part: $30 n works perfectly lol.

Any way I will try too use some pressurized air, I just bought a new can :)

If you cannot fix it under warranty, I'd suggest you take it apart and have a look under the hood. The issue might be an easy fix.
I had the joystick break in half on my MB-D11 and I took it apart, just unscrewed the screws and lifted the top. I removed the joystick and glued it then put it all together again. Very easy.
