Problems with USB Connection While Shooting Tethered?

Hello Everyone,

I shoot tethered 90% of the time. The USB connection always causes problems. I have the cable supported which helps some but it is a PITA. My primary camera is a D800 but I experience the same problems with my other Nikons.

Is there a good way to secure the cable (plug) to the camera?

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks and have a great day,

Roger

I am revamping this thread. My problem still exist; however, I have a few more facts. I have tried several high end 15' USB 3 extension cables and even more USB 3 cables that connect to the camera. Below is what I have experienced.

My computer will see the camera but Camera Control Pro or Lightroom won't recognize it. It will work at times and the download speed is very fast. Using a USB 3 cables the transfer time for a RAW file is about a second. I can connect a 40' USB 2 cable to the USB 3 cable from the camera and it works fine. The download speed is around seven seconds but it is something I can live with.

Can anyone shed light on what may be going on?

Thank you for your input and have a great week.

Roger
