slowly working out how to get the camera set to suit me, i do have 2 questions, first is there is somthing in my settings that is preventing me shooting multiple exposures {not available at these settings}any thoughts?

...and secondly with ais zoom lenses can they be configured in the same way as an ais 50mm {for example}...specificaly an 80 to 200 f4?
cheers mark

Are you saying that Multiple Exposure is greyed-out in the Shooting menu? If so, you have another option enabled, such as HDR, that is causing that but I can't say for sure which one it is. You also need to be in Single Frame or Continuous Low or Continuous High on the Mode dial to do multiple exposure shooting.
