D750 Lens suitability

Hi Guys,

I am scratching my head over which lens to choose out of the Tamron 90mm or Tamron 90mm VC. The cost is $100 or $249 (brand new), reason being so cheap I won a few competitions and it got me some credit with Tamron (wooo).

If I own the f2.8 24-70 , 70-200 range are the above lenses useless for me ?

I placed fairly well and have quiet a few to use up. I also won a new 16-300 tamron lens but for my fx I decided to place her on ebay rather then use it and let it devalue.

Congratulations,if you want to do macro then the 90mm would be a good choice,i would go for the VC because i shoot hand held, dont use flash very often and find some of the positions i get into to shoot macro makes me even more unsteady :D

A 24-70mm or 70-200mm can never do what a true macro does: shoot 1:1. If you have the choice pick VC. It does matter since the closer you get to 1:1, the worse even the least amount of shake becomes.

My macro doesn't have VC (VR) but I sure wouldn't mind having it. I'd even have paid a good amount of money more would it have been an option.

A macro would be a good addition to your kit. And VC can't hurt (unless you use it incorrectly). I have the Tokina 100 2.8 (non VR) and 90% of my shots are from a tripod. Most of the other 10% are at a fast enough shutter speed that VR wouldn't be in order. During the 5 years I've owned it, I've had a few chances to upgrade to the Nikon 105 VR, but didn't feel that it was worth a couple hundred bucks to get VR. Good luck.

I think you should buy the one with VC, because:
- retail price difference between two models is $250, but in your case the difference is only $150
- the one with VC is a newer design and optically better
- it's useful to have VC whenever you don't have a tripod handy.

I also agree the lens with VC would be the better option. Despite that you own the 70-200mm f/2.8, the 90mm is smaller and would work well for portraits. Although it isn't an 85mm f/1.8, it will still do a remarkable job. And it means you wouldn't have to carry the weight of the 70-200mm lens. And for macro, I've heard it is a stellar lens.

Having the VC will make the lens easy to sell down the road if you choose to do so. It is a desired lens and one that should hold its value probably better than the non-VC lens.
