Another question about spot focus moving with the dial

If I am in spot focus mode, and want to move the focus to the side of the frame, I just make sure the focus dial is unlocked, then move the dot to where I want to focus, then take the picture. Works fine, but after the shot I generally want the focus back in the center, so as to be ready for an unpredictable shot. The problem is that the focus dot will not move back to center, unless I shut off and restart the camera. Anyone know why?

Is the meter still on or has it timed out? If the metering/viewfinder display has turned off, the focus point won't move. Try a half press of the shutter and see if the point moves while the display is still active.

Normally I find you need to half depress the shutter button and then press to OK in the dial centre to get the focus point back to the centre

this i did not know, thanks.
On the d7100 (and probably others), menu f1 sets what the OK button does in shooting mode. It either centers the focus point, highlights it or no action. So if it doesn't work for you or the OP, you might have to set the option.

Im pretty sure if it hasn't been messed with from factory it will be set as reset but like you say worth checking :)

On D3300, pressing the OK button when the display is on puts the focus back to the central point. Must be same in other bodies.
