Nikon battery grip question

Ok so you buy the grip and put it on, but in order to have and use both batteries, then you need to take the grip off to charge the battery in the camera, is this right? Is there a way to charge the battery in the camera?

An idea, leave the battery out of the camera, and just use the battery in the grip, then just swap it when needed, that way you could leave the grip on all of the time.

I do this frequently.

I also have the settings adjusted to use the battery in the grip before going to the battery in the camera body. Then I typically switch only the battery in the grip when needed, while the battery in the camera body serves as an, "Oh S--t!" backup.

This is what I do except my grip battery is a D4 battery! I wonder if the D7100 has a similar option as my D800E, to use the D4 battery? That could be a big advantage! :)

Pretty sure all those camera bodies use the EN-EL15 battery so yes; they should all be interchangeable.

I was going to post this !

I typically watch the battery statuses and try and re-charge the battery in the grip before it gets into the battery into the camera, ill then drain them both, re-charge and switch them around to get best life out of them

Where in the settings do you make the change regarding the battery grip use of battery? Thank you? I have had the camera stop functioning till I removed the grip.

On my my Nikon D7100, it's in the custom settings menu, D13, battery order,

Have a look in your user manual if you have a different camera,

Seems like I read in an earlier post this morning that you had a D3200. If that is the case they have a different grip option. Nikon does not make one for them and you have to go aftermarket. Both batteries can be changed without removing the grip, and the camera just uses them both up in order.

what you must watch is that you programme the same battery order in each of U1 U2 and A or you will find as you change from one to the other you get different batteries....
Setting to grip battery first in A will not make that happen in u1
