First image from D7100

Well, I finally got the D7100 in my hands and it's a hell of a camera. I'm sure I'll spend lots of time getting things tuned just the way I like. Overall, I think it's a superb piece of equipment.

This is a quick HDR of some shots took after work today. I really need to get better with Lightroom / PS. The full size JPEG was over 11M, but this is halved in size so it fits the upload requirements.

Very nice picture Donnie. You just got your D7100 and you jumped right into HDR? Pretty impressive. :)

How many exposures did you take for that?
What were the settings?
What software did you use to combine them? or did you just use the auto HDR function?

I get the best results with my D7100 using 3 exposures (-1,0,+1) and I combine them using Photomatix Pro.

Next time just resize your full jpeg to 1000 on the long size and upload it that way. If you really like to show off your work, then just upload your shots to a hosting service, and put up a link so we can all revel in its full resolution goodness.:)

Looking good - but why shoot jpg when you can get so much more from a raw file anf LR will handle raw's with no problem?

Hope it's Ok to post a photo of the first image of my D7100 on your thread DonnieZ.. :)

Here's mine, the very first image of my D7100, the guy who assisted me took the shot :D, and once I got home last night I checked the shutter actuation of my unit by using this image through Shutter Actuations - Shutter Count and viola! It showed that this is the very 1st one! :D

So excited to learn more using my D7100 and shoot shoot shoot some more!

Thanks.

All these were shot in raw and then exported to JPEG for display on the web. I did try out the in-camera HDR for a couple of shots, but went back to raw afterward. I liked the LR HDR better.

5 exposures, from -2 to +2. I think the first exposure it took was 30/1.

I shot in aperture priority, set to f/16, ISO 100 with long exposure NR on, saved as RAW. Hit the bracket button and set for 5 exposures from -2 to +2. I threw a lens cleaning cloth over the viewfinder for the long exposures.

BTW.. As you probably saw from the EXIF, this was taken with the D40 kit lens, the 18-55G ED non VR.

To get the HDR, I just did a photo merge in LR6 to HDR without any of the ghosting correction or auto-tone.

The bracketing thing I'm still learning about. I like HDR images, but it was something that took a lot of patience to do on my D40 because it did not have a bracketing feature. I'm still learning the bracketing function, and I think I got it. I didn't have time to bust out "Mastering the D7100" while I was out by the Planetarium taking these shots to read all about it - I just went out there and gave it a shot. Luckily too, as it started to rain once I started taking down the tripod and such.

Shutter count of one? Wow.

I bought my D7100 refurbished from Roberts Camera in Indy. I did the same thing when I got it out of the box and it had a shutter count around 950. Others had gotten refurbished units with 15-20 shots on them. Not a huge deal though - I just found that site right when I ordered the D7100. When I put my last D40 image through it, I was well over 11.5K shots and that camera never failed me once since I got it in 2008. I think Nikon shutters are rated for 150K shots or something like that.

Beaware they don't all make it to 150,000 and some even get way higher than that !!
