Make Sure You have the Latest Firmware

The other day I checked my firmware and found the lens firmware was out of date. No problem, just download it from Nikon's website and upload it via your memory card. I'm sure there are others afraid to upgrade their firmware, but trust me, it's painless.

A word of warning though,if you use lenses from the likes of Sigma and Tamron, then Nikon have been known to include things in firmware upgrades that screw you, they do not always tell you every thing.

Thanks Chris, I was behind on both my cameras so just did them.

If you go to the Nikon website and look up support for the D7100 or whatever camera you are using, it will list _ALL_ of the lenses this software updates. There are too many to list here so please go look them up. Chances are, your lens will be mentioned.

I have a D7100 and I noticed that they do have a newer upgrade (2015/05/28) for distortion control, which is lens related. But, it's not firmware that updates a lens, it's a camera firmware upgrade. The list of lenses looks like it's basically all Nikon D7100 compatible lenses. Some older AF and the newer AF-S.

Anywho, I didn't know about this one. I am up-to-date prior to this update though... I wonder if this update will negatively affect my Tamron lenses? Has anyone tried this D7100 update with the latest Tamron 90mm macro or the latest 70-200mm telephoto?

Yes....it is a camera firmware update....but like you said, it updates distortion control in the camera....don't know if it would adversely affect Tamaron or any other 3rd party lenses.
