Just made the price drop

So I was on Nikon's site drooling over the D810 for my next camera and by chance I noticed the D7100 price dropped from $1049 to $949. I bought mine at Best Buy on the 13th and today being the 28th I raced to them in my car cause they dropped their price accordingly as well. So I got my $100 plus tax back, but this tells me something else. I'm for sure that the D7200 or 7300 perhaps will be coming out soon. I expect CES at the latest and that kicks of Jan. 6th. I was hoping to sell mine before the price drop, but it seems Nikon already took that step. At least I caught the drop in time to put towards a 50mm 1.8g, oh with the savings I picked up this as well which came out to $27 after I used a $15 gift card they gave me for my points bonus.

Good that you got the refund.

As far as the SD card, I was at my local BB a few days ago and they didn't have a single Sandisk SD card (Extreme Plus or Pro) worth having in the store. (All were slow or too small.) That had a lot of the Sandisk Pixtor cards, though. I guess I'll mail order those, as well, now.

It appears your cat isn't too impressed, though.;)

I'm reallllly hoping that this price drop means that they're getting ready to announce a successor.

Ya my Best Buy had both the Plus and the Pro but for the little bump in speed I couldn't justify the price. I could understand maybe on a D4s but not on the 7100

I just don't see Nikon continuing along their current path with DSLR crop cameras. With the arrival of crop size sensors on mirrorless cameras like the Samsung, what is the incentive? Full blown hobbyists will eventually want to move to FF, and crop cameras were always an economical choice for those just starting out or on a budget. Now mirrorless is giving the same IQ in a smaller package, making it easier for travel and convenience for the person who doesn't want to go all in on photography.

Look at the new cameras lately from Nikon.....all FF. 810, 800E, 650, 750. I believe all or most of those have come out since the 7100. No new DX lenses lately. Other companies offering crop size sensors in mirrorless cameras. Logic tells me that Nikon's future for crop cameras will be mirrorless.

Of course, I could be wrong.
