All in one lens choice...Help!

Hi all,

looking to trade in my current Nikon 55-300 and pick up an all-in-one lens. The choice is between the Tamron AF 16-300mm f3.5-6.3 Di II VC PZD Macro Lens and the AF-S DX NIKKOR 18–300mm f/3.5–6.3G ED VR. Had a wee look on here and at a few review sites, but still can't decide. Most give the overall advantage to the Nikon, but i'm keen to explore macro more and thinking the Tamron may be better there. Hoping there may be a few on here that can list pros and cons with both to help convince me either way.

Thanks in advance.

I'm not familiar with that specific Tamron but I have the 70-300 + macro Tamron collecting dust somewhere. It's only 1:2 macro in its 180-300mm range and that's good if you take the occasional shot of not too small subjects. If you want closer and bigger, the Tamron macro option gets old pretty fast.

Luckily mine was as cheap as a pair of socks so no harm done.

Hello, I have the Sigma 18-250 and have just changed to the Nikon 18-300. The difference between them is immense. The Nikon is much sharper and the colour rendition is great, also the autofocus is faster and quiet and the zoom is more responsive. I found the zoom on the Sigma a bit sticky. So I have no hesitation in saying go with the Nikon. I have not tried any macro stuff with it yet but have done one or two close up but have not yet sussed out the depth of field, so I still have a bit to learn. I spent hours researching but found very little to help me and got thoroughly confused in the end with what I did find. Eventually, I bit the bullet and bought the Nikon via the Internet, that way I could at least try it with the option of returning it if it was unsuitable.
Hope that helps and good luck with your choice.
