Dropped my D7100!!

I had my D7100 attached to the inside of the glass in my car boot with a bracket to experiment with some in car shots. The camera, after a good while, got loose and fell in to the boot. It was cushioned so I calmly pulled over and went to get it. When I opened the boot however the camera bounced out and landed on the tarmac with a sickening thud.

I've checked the camera over. It had a very slight chip on the body. Not at all big and I'm not fussed about that. However I've noticed now there appears to be a black mark in the view finder. It's not on the lens as I've changed that and it's still there. I've looked at the mirror, that looks fine and I've noticed this mark does not show on any photos.

I suspect this is somehow affecting the view finder only and when I point the camera at the light the black mark lights up like a small chip. It's tiny and so I can ignore if it I really want to, but does anyone know what this is likely to be that's damaged and how much a replacement would be?

Thanks

My D7100 dropped out of the rolling case yesterday and hit the concrete. lucky that it was less than a foot off the ground and it landed directly on the back of the camera. No damage or even a scratch. Took a couple of photos and it appeared to work OK. Will have to wait till I feel like getting back out and shooting more to see if it is really OK. My heart skipped several beats when I turned around and saw it on the ground.
Hope yours is OK.

I remember reading an article by a professional photographer doing the review for Nikon D7100. The problem with electronic item like Nikon D7100 is sometimes it is intact although it drops from 10ft above the ground but sometimes it can be damaged/spoilt although it drops from only 1 foot above the ground. Although the main function of Nikon D7100 or any conventional DSLR still depends on mechanical movement such as mirror slap, shutter curtain, etc, the rest of the functions are chiefly electronic. It is very unpredictable. So the best thing we can do is we have it with care and caution. Unless you have tons of money LOL.

On the plus side, D7100 crash test complete. It's a tough little camera. I suspect my earlier dslr cameras would have broken with the drop. And top marks to the Tamron 17-50 lens as well, not so much as a scratch or rattle. All working fine.

Bothers me a little, but if it's expensive I'll cope with it. If not it will get sorted soon.

Just a thought, you should get it fixed anyway. Otherwise you'll have to put up with the mark throughout your ownership of the camera & then have the cost of the fix reduced from your resale price when you come to sell/part-ex. So you'll pay for it anyhow. :(
