Tempting. Then I could have 2 D7100 bodies and not have to count on my aging D70 as a backup/alternate lens camera.

When the D7200 comes out, I'd bet we'll see D7100s for even less, though. Maybe I'll be patient. :)

nikon might have a new DX camera for photokina.

buying a refurb camera wouldnt bother me a bit. for the price difference Id get a 3 year mack diamond vip insurance that is an all risk warranty. so it covered for accidental damage, shutter, everything. and it will still cost less than the nikon USA warranty version with 3 years of full covereage. so I wait for refurb sales.

I think this is the insurance/warranty

Mack 1808 3 yr International Diamond Under $1000 | eBay

thats for intl.

Mack 1307 3 yr Diamond Under $1000 | eBay

and this is for US I think.

2 things to make it legit.
-must be bought within 30 days
-must be registered on macks warranty

I bought from this guy the warranty for my D600 and recommend him to anyone I know. I get no commission but this guy is great. he will answer any question. very friendly guy.
basically you pay, he gives you the warranty number and you take that and enter all pertinent info into the mack site. about 4-5 minutes of work and youre set.

$2400 for D800 is quite tempting too....need to remember to keep an eye on this section of the Nikon site!

Do D300s or D700 ever pop up on NikonUSA as refurbs?

Aggghhh! This is sooo tempting as it would supplement my D610 for the theater photos nicely. I could use a little extra reach. Decisions, decisions. ;)

Agree, perfect kit.

do it.

I just did! ;) After seeing Jake's results with his refurbished D7100, I've been wanting one. My D90 is terrific, but it doesn't do well with high ISO and low lights during my theater photos.

Buying a refurb with a warranty plan is a great way to go. Cameta, Adorama and B&H all seem to cover refurbs for a year on their own, but the extended warranty plans can be added that cover drops and water damage not covered in factory or store plans.

Yeah, my D7100 was such a huge step up from my D70, I know you will be happy with this purchase!

Where are my manners?!! I forgot to say thank you for posting this, Ron. Later last night I finally received the email notification from Nikon about this sale although it was sent around noon. And this morning I received an email with the tracking info--expected delivery date is Tuesday! Thanks again as I totally missed the other recent thread until it was too late about Adorama's sale on a refurbished D7100! ;)

congrats hark! I hope you love the new camera! It's the best of the dx line for now. Easy to use as you'll see. Controls very similar to the D610. Enjoy!

Thanks, Chris! You have both the D7100 and D610, too. Although I prefer the FOV that FX offers, I have a need for the crop factor of the D7100 and its better low light capability than my D90. The D7100 will also be a much better backup camera due to its improved sensor over the D90. :)

Today I received my refurbished D7100--this one was sold directly through Nikon. My question is: how many shutter clicks tend to fall in the normal range for a refurbished camera? Mine only has 39  (confirmed that through 3 different web sites as my first shot came up as #40). Do you think Nikon might have lowered the shutter count?

Some poor guy probably bought the camera and managed to take a few pics before his wife found out about it and made him return it.:)
Congratulations. Looks like you got a brand new D7100 for 800 bucks.
