Does the D7000 have a PTP mode?

Hi,

I've had my D7000 a whlie now and I'm taking a look at tethered shooting for the first time. There's a linux library called gphoto2 that looks like it will do what I need, the homepage of the library states that the D7000 is compatible but needs to be in PTP mode - is this available with the D7000? I can't see anything in the setup menu that suggests that it is?

Any assistance on this would be much appreciated!

Thanks,

Adam

The D7000 does support PTP but PTP is a transfer mode, so you may need to connect your camera to the computer before the option becomes accessible. You would look in the SETUP menu and you will probably see the camera is defaulting to "Mass Storage" instead of PTP/MTP, which is what you want to enable. I'm sorry I can't tell you exactly how to get there but it should be fairly simple once the connection is made with the USB cable.

I've plugged my D7000 into my laptop, a pop-up window has appeared containing the contents of the SD card so I'm confident that the laptop can 'see' the camera, I can't see anything in the SETUP menu that looks related to PTP/MTP/mass storage etc? I've listed below all the options that are available. I'm running a linux laptop, I'm not sure if that would make a difference?

Any assistance on this would be appreciated!

Have you tried it? I think PTP is the new Nikon standard, no menu needed or provided.

The Nikon link before says:

PTP (Picture Transfer Protocol) is a newer protocol for image transfer that can be used with Windows XP (Home/Professional) and Mac OS X. Most recent COOLPIX cameras and the D100 / D200 / D300/ D300S / D700 / D3/ D3S and D3X offer PTP compatibility, the PTP system will become the future standard protocol and will offer camera control capability from a PC. No drive letter is created.
MTP / PTP is the newest transfer protocol, adding a revised set of instructions to the PTP standard, allowing transfer of audio and video files. Windows Vista has built in support for MTP/PTP, and Windows XP (Home or Professional) requires the installation of Windows Media Player 10 or later to add support. No drive letter is created.

My older D300 has the menu (Setup, USB), but my D800 does not.
