While i didn't have any problem to open NEF file of my old D80 I'm getting an error when i try to open my new D7000 NEF files with CS3.
Any ideas how to fix this?

Yes, and as you have found out the CS3 program RAW converter won't open the current Nikon NEF (RAW) files. It can open the older D80 NEF files. I don't know if Adobe has an up date RAW converter for CS3 or not. You may have to up date to the CS5. Or maybe a better suggestion is to start using Lightroom 3.3 on your PC or Aperture 3 if you are an Apple user. Much cheeper unless you are into heavy graphic arts post processing then you need CS5. If not then Lightroom or Aperture will do most if not all of the photo post processing you want. I use Aperture 3 and also have Adobe Elements 8 (a smaller version of the CS program) but have used it maybe once in the past year.

I am afraid that Adobe stated they would not back date their updates for Adobe Raw Converter to CS3. The D700 would need CS4 or later.

I agree with Joseph, try Lightroom, unless you really need all CS4 or CS5 offers.

This is one of many reasons I use Apple computers and Aperture 3. It does not matter how old the RAW file may be the Apple OS not only will open it but will convert it to the current version or if you want you can still use the old one.

Ahh as someone that uses both a Mac and a PC, that isn't quite accurate. Apple still has to update the RAW engine built into OS X before the applications can read the files created by newer cameras. Support for the D7000 was added on December 16th, 2010.

You'll have the same issue with Photoshop CS3 on either platform because the version of Adobe's Camera Raw plugin for CS3 doesn't support the D7000.
