First, go here to download the latest firmware:
D7000 firmware: A:1.01, B:1.01

Then follow these instructions:
Confirming the firmware version:

  1. Turn on the D7000
  2. Press the MENU button and select Firmware Version from the setup menu. The camera's firmware version will be displayed.
  3. Turn off the D7000
Basic Upgrade instructions: for detailed instructions, see pdf files below.

  1. Download the application below, and either click Save to save the executable file to your computer or Run to autoexpand the file into the D7000Update folder, which contains the D7000_0101.bin file.
  2. Format an approved SD card in the camera
  3. Use an SD card reader and copy the D7000_0101.bin file to the top level of the card and outside of the DCIM folder.
  4. Insert the SD memory card containing D7000_0101.bin into the camera's memory card slot 1, and switch on the camera.
  5. Select Firmware version from the setup menu and follow instructions displayed to upgrade the camera’s firmware.
  6. DO NOT turn off the camera until the instructions indicate it is safe to do so. After the firmware is completed, switch off the camera nd remove the SD memory card.
  7. Switch on the camera, and access the Firmware version item in the setup menu to confirm that the camera's firmware has been upgraded. Switch camera off, re-insert SD memory card.
  8. Format memory card in camera for use.

If the update doesn't appear to fix your problem, repeat the upgrade steps again. The first time I upgraded, it didn't fix my two bright pixels. I read somewhere else that reinstalling the new firmware has been working for some so I tried that and it worked.

Yes I can confirm that the problem is gone on my D7000. I had two bad pixels before and don't see any now. I did a test live view video with the lens cap on.

I recently installed the 1.01 firmware update. As others stated it didn't correct my one red pixel hotspot the first install either, but after the second install the red pixel was gone.

After upgrading a few minutes ago, my D7000 now shows no signs of power at all. Fully charged battery and nothing shows up. Top screen doesn't display anything. Very upset at the moment. Any ideas?

Christopher,
Wow, that doesn't sound good. I have read that if there is a problem with the update it could render your camera inoperative. After my install it went to a screen and asked to power the camera down, and after the next startup the update installed. You might pull the battery and try to turn on the camera, install the battery again and try to power it up. If no luck I would call Nikon, as something went wrong. Just my $0.02 Ken

Yea, I have tried pulling the battery and reinstalling it. No luck. Going to make my call to Nikon today. Hopefully they can get it resolved with little hit to the wallet.

Christopher please post your outcome as I am sure others will want to know how your dealings went with Nikon. Thanks. Ken

Can I have this upgrade done at a camera shop? I am a little nervous about trying this on my own. should I just leave it as is for now? I dont want to create a problem if I do something wrong .

The firmware upgrade was for the hot pixel problem. If you don't have any or if it doesn't bother you, IMO, you don't need the update. I had only one but I couldn't sleep at night (am I weird?) thinking about it so I did the upgrade. But again a brick DSLR is worse than having a few hot pixels.
