D7000 and Lightroom 3

I just tried it from the camera into the supplied Nikon NX2 software. LR3 would not import the nef files and did not recognize the jpg files. The Nikon NX 2 software did work as, did the iPhoto. I haven't tried CS5 yet to see but, Bridge 5 only takes the jpg and says it can't do the nef. Perhaps the NX 2 software is combining the pics since the file size is 27M per pic.

Adobe Photoshop CS5, Bridge CS5 and Lightroom 3.x should be able to correctly process the JPEG files. The NEF files will require an update by Adobe to the Camera RAW plugin to process but I'm surprised that LR couldn't import them into the catalog.

The file size seems normal - the NEF files from my D300 are around 24-25M per image.

I did all of the CS5 and Bridge updates and reinstalled everything as well and got a message "Raw files do not support your camera" or words to that effect. You would think that NIKON would have gotten a fix to these essential elements of photography before they adjusted the software.

You are suffering the cost of being on the bleeding edge. Adobe rarely supports a new camera immediately since I believe that they need access to one to update ACR. I bought my D300 a couple months after it was released and faced the same issue.

I just read on another site that the D7000 is shipping with ViewNX2 2.02 which supports the D7000. It is not yet available for download from Nikon's site. It is expected to be released early next week.

Eduard, After 3 go arounds with Nikon Customer Service, all the could offer me was the software that came with the camera which is ViewNX 2.01. The Adobe issue was one of a lack of coordination on Nikon's part to have the D7000 included with Adobe products. Thanks for the update on the 2.02 version. I have had to just use jpg in the interim. It reflects poorly on Nikon's project Management and planning again.

Hi guys..for what its worth ive figured out a workaround. Not sure if this is ideal (im somewhat new to high-end photography), but I converted all of my raw-NEF files in ViewNX2 into TIF files and then imported them into LR3. I dont know if this distorts the image at all, but its the best I can do at the moment.

Good luck

I think installing the Lightroom 3.3 that I linked above is the best option - it's supposed to read the raw files from the D7000.

It'll be 'official' later this year, but should work just fine now.

It certainly is an option but the whole point of LR is the non-destructive aspect of leaving the original intact. If you decide to go down that route, I'd make sure to save the original NEFs in case you want to go back when LR 3.3 is released.

Lightroom 3.3 Beta addresses the D7000. You can get a free beta demo and LR will update the LR 3 after all comments are in. I haven't tried to use .net or raw films yet. too busy enjoying the camera.

I also had the same problem with LR3 and the NEF files. I can't wait for Adobe to catch up with the D7000.

My workaround: insert card into card reader and convert NEF to DNG with Adobe DNG Converter. Import into LR3 as usual.

I tried using the Nikon software but decided it wasn't worth the hassle.

Hope that helps.
