What lens do you use the most with your D7000 ??

The 18-105 is an excellent lens. It gives you wide angles for landscapes and zooms to a moderate length for some close shots. I have an 18-55 that I use more than anything else for everyday shooting. I use my 55-200 for farther reach only, and my 105 macro for super close up, but the 18-55 is my workhorse.

If you decide you need longer reach, I'd consider the AF-S VR Zoom-NIKKOR 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6G IF-ED

The 18-105 is a great walkaround lens. I eventually replaced it with a Sigma 24-70mm f2.8 which, while shortening my reach, gave me the narrower depth of field I wanted for a lot of walk around shots. It gets some knocks on full frame cameras because of a lack of edge crispness, but on a cropped sensor it's superb. Since getting my D600 I find that I either have a Sigma 8-16mm or 150-500mm on it depending on what I'm looking to shoot - landscapes or wildlife. I haven't gotten an ultra-wide for the D600 yet, so I get more MP's out of the 8-16 on the D7000 than I would in DX mode on the 600, and I love the extra reach of the 150-500 on the cropped sensor (225-750mm equivalent on a D600).

For some reason this lens has not gotten a lot of respect, but I bought my D7000 with an 18 - 200 and I am happy with it. It is just important to understand that there are compromises to be made with a lens with this much zoom. If one will be pixel peeping every shot, or enlarging to poster size, this is not the lens for you. If however, you want one lens to 'walk around' with...it fits the bill pretty well.....one person's perspective. : )

I def want to pick up a longer telephoto but I am undecided between the 55-200mm or the 70-300mm. Since I already have the 18-105mm, do you guys think the 55-200mm be a waste ?? Damn good price though....

My Tamron 70-300mm VC lens is on my camera about 95% of the time. Probably 3% of the time, my Tamron 90mm macro, and the final 2% of time with my 18-105mm kit lens. Of course, each person's uses are different, so it really depends on what you want to do.

both my 18-200 and 18-55 now squeek and make a fuss, so,, lately just been using the 24-85 lens, as a light weight walkaround. I use my D7000 for those times that I don't want a camera to weigh me down, and the 24-85 does the trick, before that, I really like the 18-55 VR, for its sharpness, but seems to have a shelf life.

If I had to choose between the two, I'd pick the 70 to 300. I have the 55-200 and I am constantly wishing I had just a little more reach.

If I am on vacation my most used lens is a Sigma 17-50mm f/2.8 EX DC OS HSM. If I am shooting wildlife it would be Nikon 70-200VR F2.8 and often I have a Nikon 2x 20E III teleconverter attached.

Just my opinion: get rid of your 18-105 and get the 18-55 VR. Then you can get the 55-200. Spending money on a 55-200 really is not going to get much more than what you have now - 95 more mm for $250 or so... not worth it in my opinion. By all accounts, the 18-55 is a better lens.

I was thinking that exact same thing....

My Sigma 70-200mm f/2.8 gets a ton of use on my primary body. My secondary body has a 35mm f/1.8 attached. I am working on getting a fisheye for the secondary but the 70-200 gets most of my attention.

Love the 35 1.8 , 50 1.8, 55-200 when I need zoom which is not that often for what I shoot. I've shot the 18-200 and it's heavy and in the range of the 55-200 I think the 55-200 is better (lighter and sharper). I use the 12-24 Tokina for landscape stuff, 35 for most shots and low light stuff. 50 for single subject shots and the 55-200 for nature or sports. My favorite is the 50 though. Never shot a 70-300 but I have been eyeing that lens for a while now.
