I use a D700 need advice

My latest issues are I have no assistant need a nice easy to use portable reflector that I can use. Tried to use one on a stand it constantly falls over. Any recommendations for a good reflector with a one man show? Also want to know anyones opinion on the 135mm Nikon portrait lenses. No one has one to rent s I can try it out before I buy it. What is your opinion on this lens????

I use that plasticized corrugated board as a reflector. Works great. Get it at a craft store or Home Depot, Lowes, .......like that. I know some people that use aluminum foil on cardboard as a reflector. The limitations are your imagination. :)

As for the 135 lens, depends how far back you want to get to take portraits. I use a 50mm f1.8 for portraits. But besides that, nothing wrong with the 135, although it's not a main stream portrait lens. Better of with an 85 or even a 60. Even a zoom 18-105 makes a good portrait lens. How deep are your pockets? :)

Hello Christi I am a newbie and I don't have much to offer in the way of advice concerning reflectors however I have been shooting with an old 135/2.8 Q Nikkor for quite some time and have found it to make some decent head and shoulder type portraits. It seems to excel the most with somewhat longer ranged full body portraits however...you can see examples of both in my gallery. My experience with the 135Q has led me to want to try out an old 135/3.5 which is based on the Sonnar formula...I will get one someday...after I have aquired the classic head and shoulder portrait lens - 105/2.5...which is also available in the Sonnar formula BTW...for fashion type portraits I have read great things about the early 85mm Nikkors. Many of these older Nikkors are CHEAP!!!
