Please help - missing photos when I download

I have lost numerous photos in the last two days when I go to download them from my card into my computer. The photos have been on the card, as I have gone back to check them, but when I download them, they aren't there. Is this an issue with my card e.g. should I replace the card? or is this an issue with my D700 e.g. I should buy a new camera?

What format are you saving them in? Have you tried to download them onto a different computer? How are you trying to download them? Cable, SD card adapter or directly onto a sd card slot built into your computer. Have you tried a different camera formatted sd card?

Oh, welcome to the forum!

Cindy, a little more information could help us help you.
What software are you using to download your pictures? Some programs will create a different file every time you download and sometimes that files gets somewhere on your computer where it's a bit hard to find. You have to go to your downloading program's preference to check where the files are saved to. Some of these (Nikon View NX for example) will remember which files were downloaded and won't let you download the same file twice and even could be hiding them when you plug the camera or the card in the computer.

The best way I found was to get a card reader and then copy the files from the card to a file on your hard disk and then work on them from there.

If you see the pictures when you insert the card in the camera, the files are still there and if you use a card reader, you should be able to get to them eventually.

Good luck and let us know how things turn out.

Welcome to Nikonites by the way.
