I have been trying to find a place to purchase the 700 but can not find anyone who has it available...actually. They allow you to purchase it but they do not have stock. Is there a reason why after all this time of waiting and saving that I can not get it? I was told it was being discontinued but can not find any actual proof of this and think that would be ridiculous for Nikon to do. I feel as if the world is sending me a sign. Anyone know what is going on???

Yeah, you're right. All the places I normally look have them out of stock. Nothing is said about discontinuing it though. My guess is that like many other Japanese items, it is unavailable due to the earthquake and following disasters there. Time will tell. Did not go to the Nikon site to see if they have anything to say about DC'ing it.

I didn't think about the earthquake. That would make sense. Kinda sucks though. I will have to check out Green Mountain...Adorama didn't have any now but I will be checking EVERY day till I can order one! Happy Easter to you guys and thanks for your response!

honestly as of right now between the earthquake and working on an upgrade they might go out of production soon. i bought the last D700 out of my local camera store 3 months ago and they dont have any still in either of there locations

That would suck. From what I hear, the upgrade won't really be much of an upgrade you loose the great ISO range in exchange for more megapixels and video (which I don't need) It won't even be the same camera. I truly hope that the 700 becomes available again. It would figure, when I finally save up the money to get one after all the debating that it would not be available anymore. BOO!

Well after talking to many people I decided not to wait to slightly update my camera. I got the D7000 (Was going to do the D300 but was recommend not to even bother spending the difference and just go with the D7000) and then 6-12 months down the line I will get the D700 (if available and if not what ever camera replaces the D700. Slightly disappointed because I really want a FX camera but I desperately need to upgrade my D70s to continue growing as a photographer! Thank for all your responses though I am still looking forward to the D700 coming back (HOPEFULLY)!!

Nikon FX bodies are made in Japan. DX bodies are made in Thailand.
Productions has been disrupted due to the recent earthquake.
Also the new FX models that should be out 2nd quarter of this year wont be released any sooner due to this event.
