I just bought a used D700 and there is a slight grey ink on the edge of the LCD screen. Is this something that can be fixed?

Not sure it can be fixed, but an LCD replacement is expensive. Does it adversely affect the LCD picture?

Risking the wrath of D700 owners i watch the secondhand sales at a company called Wex and although lcd clouding is mentioned for different cameras there is a tendency for it to be D700s.so long as its usable i dont see it as a problem though i guess it could get worse over time.

I wouldn't worry about wrath but I am curious because this is the first I have ever heard of it. I have had mine for 4 years how and know several others who also own D700's and none of us have had any problems. Mine has been in some very hot and (now) some very cold environments with no problems. Granted, I have an LCD protector over mine which completely covers it and so mine only sees the light of day if I want to review an image. The rest of the time no light hits it. Not sure if that has anything to do with it

Doesn't the D700 use the same 3" LCD as other Nikons of that era, like the D300 and D3? I've never heard of any unusual issues effecting those bodies, and I've never seen anything develop in the ones I've owned.

Just had a look on the WEX site they have 7 D700s for sale with only one mention of clouding and one of fogging dont know the difference,so at the moment its two out of seven. It could be that this is the only company that will take them in as a trade in with this problem so it would then make it appear more common.
That replacement cost isnt bad if you buy at the right price.

I have clouding on my D3. its just the outter protection screen and im certain its the same with the OP. the screen thats external to us is not the actual LCD. its just a protection glass. ive replaced my D300 one that aslo had visual fogging on it. its nothing new.

Its why I suggest when you get a new DSLR, get a protective outer glass to it. like this one which is excellent
