Lightroom update to accommodate D610 NEF files?

Does anyone have any insight into when a Lightroom 5 update will be available to accept NEF files from the D610? I picked up the body yesterday to discover I can't process the RAW files in Lightroom...

Adobe is usually pretty quick but since version 5.2 just came out in mid-September it won't be immediate. There are a lot of new camera releases recently though so that might help.

I had to wait about 3-4 weeks after I got my d600. A little longer since I use DXO pro. Please tell us what you think so far o the d610 since you are the first I have heard that has the body so far. :)

What about converting the files to DNG? Won't that allow you to edit them in Lightroom 5?

How do you change the exif data? is it easy? I also have a D610 and I would love to use since I have 5 family session booked in the next two weeks.

Anybody know if the D610 update will include light room 4 or will I have to buy light room 5 if I get a 610?

I suspect that you will be able to use the DNG converter (once available) separately first and then import into LR4 if you wanted to, but if you want to stick with NEF files then you'll need to go to 5.

At this point, I'm using card slot #1 to record NEF files and card slot #2 to record .jpg files. I copy both sets of files to my photo storage hard drive. Then, I import the .jpg files into LR5, manipulate and export the .jpg files. When the LR5 update comes out, I will import the NEF files, reproduce the adjustments made on the .jpg's and delete the .jpgs.

I am unable to get D610 NEF files to open in Lightroom 5 or Photoshop CC. :(

Well you can blame Nikon for changing the proprietary RAW format so no existing program can read them before an upgrade.
You could convert to DGN an then open in LR but to open directly you 'll have to wait. Don't worry, you're not alone

I'm changing the exif from the NEF files and have no problem or issues opening the files then in PS.
Last paragraph at this site ...
Open D610 RAW Files .NEF | Nikon D610
for explanation and download link to "exiftool".

At first it seemed insane to me that this solution works, but when I realize that the sensor in the D610 is the same as the D600 (as is mostly everything else) then it almost makes perfect sense. Nikon did some white balance tweaks in the D610 firmware that may be lost, but the main thing is to get the photo into the tool, right?

I don't expect this would work with something like the DF that's coming out, which has the same sensor as the D4 (i.e. change "DF" to "D4" using the Exiftool), but in this one case I can't see any reason why it shouldn't work.

What the tool actually does is that it just changes the Exif Entry for the Camera Model. Instead of D610 the EXIF reads D600 and tricks the Camera Raw to open the file.
If you want you even can change the exif back later to D610.

Exactly. But if the file contents of the RAW files were not compatible between the models then the trick would not work.
