Nikon D60 vs. the new Samsung Nx10 EVIL camera.

I want the Nx10 EVIL camera from Samsung so bad
and I love all the specs. of it. But my friend got the Nikon D60 today and I used it a bit and most of the specs. are the same on it as the Nx10; the one difference I know of is the resolution (the Nx10 has 14.6 megapixels while the D40 has 10.8)

Would the nx10 be more expensive? And I know the Nx10 is very new but does anyone know which one I should rather get? It would be my first DSLR; but I know all about em' cause I have a Panasonic Lumix DMC FZ28 with all the manual settings.

The NX10, while it does have an APS-C sized sensor, is still not really a true DSLR in that it has an electronic viewfinder rather than a mirrored one that lets you see thru the actual lens. Most of the reviews I've read on the NX10 say it's current lenses are just not as sharp as what's available with most all brands of true DSLRs... Right now there are only two lenses available for the NX10 (and these are not great), but there has been some talk of Samsung coming out with an adapter that will allow the fitting of Pentax DSLR lenses, so things may improve some in the future...

Personally, I feel that if you want a smallish DSLR type camera, then why not buy a smallish DSLR? These other rigs are just imitations, and none of them, regardless of their pixel size, has come out with anything that beats the Nikon D40 or D40X IMO!

As of July 2010 you can buy a lightly used good D40 body for around $200, or one with an 18-55mm kit lens for around $300. And IMO this little Nikon (with 6MPs!) will blow away ANYTHING now being made in the Micro, 4/3's, or EVIL hybrid sizes, and this stuff is selling for around $500-$600!!!

What many people don't understand about these pixel size 'wars' is that if you pack a lot of MPs into a small camera they have to be smaller, and so you're gonna have more of a problem with noise. This is maybe why the NX10 isn't all that sharp I'm guessing; because they put a lot of MPs into a small camera and have to have a lot of noise-suppression software to counter the fact, and noise-suppression software generally causes soft, un-sharp photos!

Greywolf, you're absolutely right on all counts. The D40 is a far superior camera to the Nx10. Far superior! Capri..don't get caught up in the pixel game. It's the photographer, not the pixels, that determines a great picture. Capri, go to KenRockwell.com and read the reviews from this expert photographer on the D40, the D60 and even the other models there. You'll be greatly surprised!
