Opinion on lenses for 5300?

I find some good deal for the body but Im in more than 2 minds about the lens for it. Since Im a beginer Im looking for lets say all round lens. The basic one which comes with the body is 18-55mm but I have read a lot of reviews and make conclusion that I need a little bit better lens. I will mostly shoot nature shots and maybe some products and maybe even portrets so what do you think might be better 18-105mm or 18-140mm?

I have had the 18-105 and the 18-140 and I highly recommend the 18-140. It is a outstanding lens. I used it on my D7100 for a long time.

If yours is the 18-55mm with VRII, that's actually a damn good little lens. The 18-140mm would get you some extra reach, if that's what you want and it's a very versatile daily-walk-about sort of option. Image quality is also quite good. My girlfriend shoots with a D5300 and I'd love, LOVE, LOVE to put a Sigma 18-35mm F1.8 DC HSM A on it, but that's an $800 (USD) lens and I'm not sure how deep your pockets are.

Well I have kit body and 18-55mm lens for about 500e and pretty much that fits with my pocket but never know when I might need a little bit zoom and moreover I would like to make some panoramic shots. Do u think it's worth saving and w8 a little bit more and get 18 - 140mm lens?

I had the 18-55 and I thought it was worth upgrading to the 18-105 when I saw it for a good price. And when the 18-140 came along, I grabbed that too. I got them both at great refurbished prices. The 18-55 is not bad at all, its just nice to walk around with the extra reach. Sounds like you are not in the US, but Adorama has refurbished 140's for $250 right now.

Look for good used copy of the 18-140. I don't know the used market there, but in the US we can find them for half the cost of a new lens.

It's actually a good idea, and when we think about non brand new lens, what would be the most important specs to be careful about ofc excluding physical scratches and so on. What else could be bad, I mean there is a bunch of lenses inside and af engine ☺?
