Hi friends,

Is possible to install a new language in D5300? currently only has English and Chinese but I want to see the menus in Spanish.

I've checked for a new firmware update (Actually has C 1.00 L 2.000, by the way, what does means C and L?) but I don´t find any update..

Thank in advance...

Uhhhh, you sure you only see two languages??

Supported languages on the D5300:

Arabic, Bengali, Chinese (Simplified and Traditional), Czech, Danish, Dutch, English, Finnish, French, German, Greek, Hindi, Hungarian, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Norwegian, Persian, Polish, Portuguese (Portugal and Brazil), Romanian, Russian, Spanish, Swedish, Tamil, Thai, Turkish, Ukrainian, Vietnamese

Where did you buy your camera from? Try a factory reset and that might fix your issue.

Go into the SETUP menu (Wrench icon), click on "Language" and select Spanish. My girlfriends D5300 has *several* languages already included here.

Voila!

EDIT: If you're not seeing a lot language support in that menu option, something is wrong with your camera; the Nikon website clearly states the following languages are supported, by default: Arabic, Bengali, Chinese (Simplified and Traditional), Czech, Danish, Dutch, English, Finnish, French, German, Greek, Hindi, Hungarian, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Norwegian, Persian, Polish, Portuguese (Portugal and Brazil), Romanian, Russian, Spanish, Swedish, Tamil, Thai, Turkish, Ukrainian, Vietnamese".

There is nothing wrong with his camera. It is a model intended solely for the Japanese market.

What you are seeing is actually English & Japanese, not Chinese. This seems to be a camera that was intended for the Japanese market only. See this thread on DPR:

D7100 language selections - warning for overseas models: Nikon DX SLR (D40-D90, D3000-D7100) Talk Forum: Digital Photography Review

I don't think there is much you can do except live with the menus in English or try to return the camera.

OMG.... I just hope that only the language options is the only difference....

I bought it on amazon in a kit with two lenses (18-55mm and 70-300mm) and a whole lot more (bag, tripods, memory, external flash and etc) all for 780usd on black friday... now do not know if I should be happy or sad :/

Thanks a lot for your support

That's a gray market camera. Guarantee it. As such, you're stuck with those language options.

"Technically", the camera will perform just like any other D5300 in the world. However, getting the camera serviced in your country may be an issue.

While you bought it on Amazon, I'm sure it wasn't purchased from or fulfilled by Amazon. I saw deals like that when I was shopping for my D5300. I almost pulled the trigger on one when I did some digging and discovered all about the gray market. I *guess* it isn't necessarily a bad thing to buy gray market -- but as AC016 points out, service (if you need it at some point) could be an issue.
