Hi,

I am super duper newbie and I recently bought my new Camera Nikon D5300 and I am starting to play around with it.

When I was fiddling around with my menu setting, I came accross Movie Settings and it showed Frame size/Frame rate as 1080p/50 and I couldn't find 1080p/60.

I am sorry if this sounds like very stupid question but I searched all over and didn't find my answer. If I someone could please tell me the difference and how to get that setting and why it wasn't there.

Regards

50P is UK (PAL) and 60P is US (NTSC).

In the UK you are better off using 50P as this will avoid interference from lights.

If you really want 60P you need to change the format to NTSC in the menu (can't remember exact menu for a moment but the manual will show you).

Thanks so much for you help, like you mentioned, and as I was once again fiddling around I just found out that NTSC support 60p and PAL supports 50p but didn't know it was in USA and UK respectively.

Anyways thanks so much for help and replying.

Cheers

It is not UK or USA only specific. Most countries other than the USA uses 50 Hz instead of 60 Hz which affects flickering when shooting video using indoor lights.

Just to clarify the differences. 50 hz does not necessarily equate to PAL/SECAM format. Same goes with NTSC since other countries uses either 50 or 60 Hz.

As an example, Japan uses NTSC but uses 50 Hz; What's the effect? Clocks on your microwave oven that was designed with 60hz will run slower and time will not be consistent. The microwave oven will still work except for the time accuracy. This is all based on my experience.

However, going back to the original topic, the question was already answered.

My mistake for (stupidly) assuming he was UK based

I generally explain it that way as it is easiest to understand (being UK based).

I should have linked to this instead on a worldwide site:
