How many photo's on an 16G Card?

Roughly how many photo's are you guys able to fit onto a 16G Class 6 SDHC Memory Card? Trying to decide if I should buy a secondary card for my first shoot with my 5100 or not.

I can fit about 700 "D300 12 Mega pixels" fine images on a 4 GB CF card...Not knowing which camera you have it's a little difficult to estimate...

I think Nikon would have this information in it's manual...Might be worth a look...

It tells you in the display how many images can fit on the card...??

But a spare card is alway handy you can always increase the compression if you get stuck and the class of card will not affect the camera performace at all ..spare ?? 4gb class 4 ??

With my d5100 I get about 167 RAW shots on a 4 GB card. I would think you would get at least 600 in RAW.

I have a PNY 16g class 4 SD card that I use in my D90.

Shooting JPG Fine - 2.1k (2100) +
Shooting JPG Fine and RAW - 711

I would guess your going to get some where around 2000 on your card shooting JPG Fine only.

JPEG file sizes vary based upon camera model and default settings, as well as user-selected resolution and compression mode settings.

Having a few smaller memory cards is better than having one huge one in case you lose it or it gets broken.

Don't put all your eggs in one basket.

I'll pick up 1 or 2 smaller cards when I pick up my camera tomorrow (it's still sitting behind a desk on hold )

i have an 8gb class 10 card, i shoot raw and i get about 350 pics so about 700 on 16gb raw

camera estimates 750 jpg on fine so 1300 for a 16gb far more than most would need unless its for a week

(im using 5100)

What does "backwards compatible" in this case mean?
