Time lapse playback

Hello. I've just returned to photography with a new Nikon D5100 and I'm enjoying learning how to use it....however....while trying the time lapse feature...I can set it to record etc but can't find out how to playback the pictures sequence as a continuous motion video...only by pressing and holding the selector right button...can this be done on the camera or does it need downloading to a pc ?
Thanking you.

It needs software on a computer. Your camera only does 2 things. It either takes video, or it takes single pictures. The time lapse feature simply takes a sequence of single images. If you want to combine those images into some type of video, you need to load the images to software that then either automatically strings the images together, and/or allows you to edit the transitions/speed etc. between images. The camera cannot do that.

That's brilliant thank you. I'll add that little job to my ever lengthening list of new things to learn. Many thanks again.

Thank you...I think I have that already on my pc....I'll give it a try when I get chance. My camera is currently on the tripod in the garden doing a little time lapse session.....hopefully I'll be able to get it uploaded and running soon...watch this space....

This one was done with a D300 and Microsoft Movie Maker. Over 48 hours, the two flashes were morning sunshine through a high window.

Yay! I seem to have it sorted....downloaded the Moviemaker and had a look on YouTube for a tutorial....really quite easy, but....100 singles frames don't last long at 0.06 of a second each do they lol....thanks again for everyone's help....
