Reverse Adapter Ring help

Hi, new here hoping someone can help a noob who has no idea what she's doing....

I have a Nikon D5100 and tried to put this on my kit lens (Nikon 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G AF-S DX VR Nikkor Zoom Lens) and I get "lens not attached" on my camera and can't take a picture or change any settings. I didn't understand the "Nikon AI" in the description meant the mount, my mount is AF-S. Is this the problem or am I missing something? Is there a way to make this work on my camera? Or should I return it? I see this one Amazon.com : Polaroid 52mm Filter Thread Lens, Macro Reverse Ring Camera Mount Adapter For The Nikon D40, D40x, D50, D60, D70, D80, D90, D100, D200, D300, D3, D3S, D700, D3000, D5000, D3100, D7000, D5100, D3200, D600, D4, D800, D800E Digital SLR Came lists the D5100 in the description, but not what mount it's for. Is that what I should have?

It's a fact that these adapters must be used in a full "Manual" mode. You have to put your camera in Manual mode and then guess the exposure and iso in order to make a picture. Your camera should normally take a shot if you're in manual. Hope this helps.
