Snow can fool your meter into thinking the scene is brighter than it really is thus underexposing and making the snow come out gray. You might try boosting your exposure a bit by shooting in manual and setting the exposure or dialing in a little exposure compensation if shooting in an auto mode.

There's a button that has a +/_ on it. That's your exposure compensation. You can increase or decrease exposure 5 stops in 1/3 increments. This only works in Program, Aperture Priority or Shutter Priority. In manual mode, you just increase the exposure by adjusting either the shutter speed or aperture depending on your needs.

As mentioned, you need to over-expose a notch or two. Did you try the 'snow' effects/scene?
Good way to learn is to let the camera make the settings, then replicate manually and try to see what the differences are when you change one of the settings, eg change ISO to faster and slower speeds.

Just a change of white balance (Auto), shadow reduce with this one. Hope you dont mind.
