Handicapped by glasses

Wearing glasses is such a handicap when trying to look through the viewfinder like looking through a rifle scope - cant frame my photo properly, can't see the data info, and its just difficult. Who with glasses or first hand experience can steer me towards an aftermarket modification for glasses that works well.

That would work. Just curious if anyone can say it works well and doesn't have it's own issues. Trying to shoot moving targets and the lighting is changing I need to be able to see the light meter in the viewfinder which I currently can't do on the fly.

thank you

I can't offer any help but I feel your pain as I wear glasses too. Makes using most cameras including my D5000 a pita. Maybe this is one reason I am so in love with my F2...100% viewfinder .8 magnification my glasses are no problem at all with it.

I'm guessing you can't adjust the diopter enough so that the viewfinder acts like your glasses? Nikon also sells diopters that go up to -5, see here. And if that's too much Nikon also offers diopters in the value of -4 and -2. Btw, the diopter that comes with your camera is a -1.

i got the hoodman eye piece, works great. I could not read the info in the view finder, with the hoodman no problem.
Works on my d5100 and d600.

Let me offer another opinion, as I wear glasses and have looked at just about every option offered to solve the problems you're experiencing.

I'll start by saying that ultimately I don't use any add-ons or eyepieces because they all distance your eye further from the existing eyepiece of your camera and that in itself makes it even tougher to see the entire frame as well as the information being displayed.

Some of those devices do work well in terms of blocking unwanted light and letting you see with greater contrast but made it impossible to compose, even with a 100% viewfinder.

Others may have had different experiences but after trying the Nikon and a few third party products, I chose to get used to the viewfinder as it is without any other doodads attached.

For me, the distancing of the eye was immediately noticeable and got in the way of my ability to accurately compose and I had to jog my head and eye around far too much to see the corners and info displayed at the bottom.

Not saying this is the case with everyone and clearly some people are liking those devices but they didn't suit me at all.

My 2 cents.

I need glasses for reading and to see distances. Basically you could say my eyes are all screwed up. With the camera, I have best results if I frame my shot by looking through the viewfinder without my glasses.

Make it a trio. I find it easier to just take my glasses off. I am mildly nearsighted, so I can get by without glasses, but I lose details at about 40 feet out. So if I want to enjoy the view when I'm not shooting I've taken to wearing them and taking them off to shoot. You'd think by now I'd have gotten something where I can just drop them around my neck, but no, I just bite the arm. My normal glasses darken outdoors making them useless for photography, so I have a pair of glasses that I wear when shooting, and in truth these sit a little closer to my eye (flexible metal frame vs. horn-rimmed) and I don't have too much of an issue with them and my D600. With the D7000 it's a little more problematic, but I can adjust.

My real issue is that I have some floaters in my eyes that make manual focus a royal pain when I need to do it.

Upon reading more and more of these, I realized another hinderance I have experienced. Back in September I went to a Naval Air show. It was a bright sunny day so I had my sun glasses on. Once I started shooting, I discovered that Polorized Sun glasses and a CPL are nowhere near being compatable with one another. Even with my handicap parking, there was a good 1/2 mile walk to the viewing stands so walking back for my regular specs was out of the question. Of course the walk was through the static displays giving me many reasons to stop and rest.
