Either replace the memory card with a new one or try formatting the card with your computer.

I'm not familiar with the D50, so I don't know if this also holds true for it? But with the D40 many have advised me that concerning any difficulty with a memory card the best way to try and clean it up is to reformat the card right in the camera, using the Setup Menu's "Format Memory Card" option. If the card doesn't get cleaned up well enough to operate after doing THAT, then you might as well get rid of it and buy a new one...

All these old questions, maybe answers will have historical significance for other users. :)

The D50 can't use SDHC cards, so that might be the problem. Without knowing the brand and capacity, it's hard to say. If it's an off-brand, it may just be a bumb card; pay the extra $5 and get a name-brand.
If it's got a capacity of over 2 gigs, it won't work with the D50 (or at least not easily; I seem to remember something you could do to use the card, but I don't think it gave you access to the full capacity).

Format the card any way that you can and then connect the card to your PC via a card reader. Run Disc Error Check (right-click / Properties on the card reader icon in My Computer) which should straighten out any problems with reading the card. Then use a file recovery program like RECUVA (free program - www.filehippo.com). This should find the majority of pictures you had on the card

Travelling Man, excellence response! You beat me to it my about 5 minutes, I think. :)
Another great little program to recover "lost" pictures is Image Rescue 3. Do a Google on it and download it for free.
