Taking shots of indoor lighting

I am setting up a website for my Dad who is an electrician, and would like to take shots of my indoor lighting. Mostly recessed and pendant lights. I was able to Google and find advice on taking shots of the outdoor at night, which turned out great, but all I can find is how to take good indoor shots. I want to take pictures of the physical lights and have no idea how. Any advice would be appreciated!

First off welcome to the forum. If you will let us know what kind of camera and other equipment you have it will help.

If you fill out your profile and add the camera gear we can better answer any questions that you might have.
You can do that at http://nikonites.com/profile.php?do=editprofile

Under camera just put the model number like D7100; Once you put the first letter like D you will see a list of all the cameras in the database pop up. The more numbers you put in the smaller the list becomes. When you see your camera just click on it, Be sure to click on "Save Changes" in the lower right corner.

Thanks

I am using a D3200. I have the standard 18-55mm lens as well as a 55-200mm Nikkor lens. I also have a tripod if that will help me out. Lights in the house are not LED's, I believe they are incandescent.
Edit: I updated my profile :) Couldn't do it on my mobile.

With trying to take photos of lights you might have some problems. I would start with taking the photos of them TURNED OFF. With the lights on you are going to have lots of problems. Use a tripod so you can get a nice sharp photo with a slower shutter speed. Depending of how close you are you might want to have a smaller aperture so the depth of field is enough to get the entire fixture in clear sharp focus.

With lighting, you're going to be dealing with a very wide dynamic range. This calls for the use of HDR techniques.

Set your camera up on a tripod, and go into manual exposure mode. Take a series of pictures at different exposure levels, ranging from one where the brightest parts of the light are properly exposed, to one where the dimmest parts of the image are properly exposed. Then, use a program like Microsoft's Geodesic HDR to make a single image from three of those shots, that include one with the brightest and dimmest parts well-exposed, and one from somewhere in the middle.
