about 70-300 mm lens

hi here I just purchased a d3200 and I'm taking my first steps on this type of cameras. my d3200 comes with a AF-S DX 18-55 mm 1:3.5-5.6 G VR lens and I would like to purchase a lens that will allow me to capture nice landscapes during travels, but I have done a little bit of research trying to get a better understanding of which lens I would benefit best and in reality I got more confused than I was in the beginning because they started to mention about the AF vs AF-S depending on the fact that whether my camera has internal motor or not and so on... Can somebody help me with this issue? I would like to be clear about this so I can make the purchase.

AF-S lenses have a focus motor built in, while AF lenses don't.

Your camera doesn't have a built-in focus motor, so it needs a lens with its own motor (AF-S) to autofocus. An AF lens will work fine with your camera, but only in manual focus.

For landscape photography you usually need a wide-angle lens, not a 70-300 mm telephoto. Your kit lens is probably just fine right now. I'd suggest to spend some time learning your camera and photography with your current kit before you buy any other lens.

We tend to say on this forum that if you don't know which lens to buy, then you probably don't need it (yet).

Welcome to the website.

Good advice from Filisek, get to know your camera, learn what it can do, the 18-55mm kit lens will be fine for now.

as a beginner myself. I have to agree with the advice given. The 18-55 is very versatile and isn't a bad lens in terms of picture quality. Happy shooting
