something odd

not sure if it's me, a setting or something is wrong, but I've noticed using live view is slowing my shutter speed considerably probably to around 1second rather than the 1/25th or faster its set to on manual and shutter aperture priority modes?
ive turned it right up to 1/4000 and and adjusted the aperture up and down seems exactly the same when using live view but works ok through the view finder.

any ideas?

Is it the firing time for the shutter (shutter lag) or the actual shutter exposure speed that is slowing down?

The *sound* of the shutter is totally different and the shot-to-shot time required is longer overall when shooting from LiveView because the shutter first has to close, the sensor is then effectively "reset", the shutter opens again to expose the shot for the prescribed amount of time then shuts again. The only thing that affects the actual exposure of your shot is the amount of time taken from shutter open to shutter closed.

Is there a problem with how your shots are turning out when using LV?

I don't think so but my screen doesn't seem the greatest, and I've taken a few from live view really to look at on a pc, the problem is needing a faster shutter in live view for angles where I can't get to the viewfinder, like holding the camera up high for eg..

There is a similar lag in my 5200 and 7100. It doesn't affect the shutter speed, but the camera is in live view so it's doing things a little different then when your using the optical viewfinder.

I agree with MF! The lag seems to be in between shots! The blur you may see could be the focus type and or the f stop your at. If your shooting close to wide open you maybe experiencing the shallow field that is in focus! Just my opinion! :)

I would call motion blur myself which doesnt happen on a hi speed shutter cos its 2 quick, but it's no real biggie I doubt I'll use the lv unless on a tripod

Made this quick YouTube vid...
I think you may be confusing the sound of the motion of the mirror with the click of the shutter. Only the shutter determines exposure. LiveView is a MUCH slower way to take pictures because so many additional things need to happen both before and after exposure.

for me it does affect shutter speed as if I move it is blurred some what
What shutter speed are you using typically? With live view there is a delay between when you press the shutter release and when they actual picture is taken. When using live view i tend to hold the camera a bit different than when I am using the OVF, a change in hand holding could be it too.

Can you post an example ?
Here is the sequence
. Finalise the focus
. Lower the mirror
. Raise the mirror
. Actuate the shutter
. Lower the mirror
. Raise the mirror
. Start Live view

The reason for a double mirror action in the D3xxx series remains a mystery to me. That is why there is no MUP (Mirror Up Mode) in this series, or may be it is the other way round. What ever the reason it is a software implementation, and Nikon could easily have given MUP and a few other features which are purely software implementation.

on on reflection I don't think it does affect the picture as I thought I think there the same I'll post one of each with same movement of camera when I get 5..
