To be honest with you i have never seen one of these that was any good, they are just a type of converter that screws on your lens.

Your 18-55m lens is wide at the 18mm end. If you are looking to go wider, there are a few lenses available. If money is a factor, I believe Sigma, Tamron, and Tokina all make wide angle zooms that tend to be a little more affordable than Nikon. Anything other than a lens isn't going to yield very good results optically. If you have a budget in mind, why don't you let us know. That way we can help narrow down what is available. :)

Add on lenses, especially on most zooms, will result in pretty bad IQ. Normally there are three methods of getting very wide angles
. Use a wide angle prime. This is in general a pretty expensive proposition, as majority of wide angle primes are FX (there is just not enough demand to make a dedicated DX).
. Use a DX wide zoom. In many cases this is a less expensive option to a prime, but you pay in terms of image IQ compared to primes and a lot of distortion which may not be easily corrected.
. Use stitching. This is the least expensive option, as you have to buy nothing. Simply use what ever lense you have and stitch it using free software. The only hitch is that stitching works for static opjects, but people have stitched waves and moving clouds!
