3 month old D3100 'error press shutter release again'

Hi, I have a D3100 that's just past it's warranty and I am getting this 'Error Press shutter release button again' message. I really would rather not drop a $100-200+ on a repair for this, I've searched for hours online and I found repair tutorials for the D60, 80 and 90 (apparently this is a common problem?) but not one for the 3100 and it is not constructed the same as those?

Any ideas? Thanks.

Maybe she got it used 3 months ago?

What happens when you put it in live view and back again? Does the mirror lock up?
