Hi

Im trying to help out a friend of mine. He got a Nikon d3100, during live view the image stays the same when he changes shutter speed and the appeture. Surely live view should show a true reflection of what your about to shoot. We've tried resetting all settings still no use. Any help will be greatly appreciated!

This is a problem with Live View and the 3100, in order to change the settings and have them show on the screen you need to reset the Live View feature. People lock in the settings they require for the shot then flick on LV,shoot, turn it back off and adjust then turn it back on.

Thanks, when you say reset the live view do you just mean turn it off and back on? I think he'll be devastated that you can't actually see the changes as you make them as he's a beginner and notmhavingnreal live view will hinder his learning!

Aye, you have to reset it every time to see the changes on the 3100 and 5100. It may be a general bug with the units or because its an entry level camera, I dont have this issue with the D90

Yea, its a dissapontment, but on the lowest entry level model this type of thing is expected. Expect to pay a lot more for a more fully featured camera that has nice things.
I don't see how it would hinder learning per se, the camera doesn't have a depth of field preview either so I doubt if that issue were fixed it would make that huge of a difference
