Re: Disastar!!
You'll have to give NIKON a call. You could also check with your home insurance to see if an incident like this could be covered. The cracked display is what you see but there might be more serious damage that you don't see… Sad event for sure. How did it happen?

Re: Disastar!!
I put in my bag after using it and got distracted thought I had zipped it up, walked back to my car and as I went to put the bag into the car it slifd out and fell on the screen, I think just the glass is cracked.

Re: Disastar!!
I wouldn't file such a small insurance claim, it might be less than the deductible, and even if it wasn't, it would probably cause a price increase that would cost you more in the long run than just repairing it yourself.

Re: Disastar!!
looking about it appears there is a glass cover over the lcd screen part and you can remove that and replace it. Watched a You Tube guy from a camera shop showing how on a cannon, he said it was exactly the same for a D3100 as well.

Found one in the Uk for about £14 it is stuck with glue to the camera and can be removed with a hair dryer to heat up glue then pulled off and cleaned up before applying new tape and then glass....

Re: Disastar!!
Ok and the ending is happy, I ordered a new screen and replaced it today all is well and it looks as good as new.
I watched this How to Replace the Rear LCD Window on a DSLR. Nikon D70 - YouTube and it worked.
If any one else has the same thing try it. Cost me about £15 that included postage, now back on the road.......
