Got some nice old super takumar lenses for my Pentax Sp500, it seems you can get an adaptor to mount M42 to the Nikon, has anyone tried one of these? if so any good? worth it?

Just check the registration distance of the lense. Most of the lenses have shorter registration distance, so you cannot focus to infinity with an adapter.

Otherwise the adapters work fine. It is just a piece of precision machined piece of metal.

There are adapters with "infinity focus glass". They allow for the lens to focus properly at infinity with the adapter. I haven't used any of these but I doubt their optical quality, as they are usually dirt cheap.

They have a lense in them and the quality usually sucks. Those that are excellent cost a whole lot more than a comparable pre owned lense. The only reason for using them would be when your lense costs thousands of dollars.
