playing with gimp

just having a go at gimp messing around with a photo i took the other day.

I had never even heard about this program until today. How does it compare to PS?

i only used photoshop a little bit then wiped my computer then didnt have it.so i cant really compare.id imagen there is more stuff on ps.you cant argue for some free software eh lol

I really struggled to master GIMP but that was a long time ago. It might be a bit easier now that I have a little bit of knowledge (very dangerous - I know) about layers and the like.
It can certainly produce anything imaginable.

i use photoshop on my mac and gimp on my linux laptop. I use gimp more actually, once you find your way around you find it can do most of the basic workflow functions that the older versions of ps can.

PS..... and its absolutely FREE! Go opensource!!

Gimp is more like PS, and Darktable is more like Lightroom.
I just can't get along with that UI on Gimp.

I love this photo, and have often wondered how the effect is achieved. Would you be kind enough to point me in the direction of a tutorial?

Ok, my first attempt with a photo of my kids. Any opinions please? My wife thinks the colours are a little too bold?

Are you running gimp on windows or mac? With OSX, do you have to use macports/homebrew, or will it run native?

Sorry for so many questions, just starting to get outside of the camera and learn/figure out some kind of post processing workflow...
