Blurry Viewfinder

Hey guys,

My D3100's viewfinder is really blurry. I haven't used it for about a year. When I picked it up I noticed that the viewfinder is really blurry. I tried adjusting the diopter and cleaning the focus screen. Nothing I've tried has improved it. Also, the photos I take are still perfectly fine and sharp. Any ideas guys? Should I bring it into a shop?

Have others look through it and see if they confirm it. If not, it might be you're getting gold.

Then maybe the diopter adjustment is not working properly. Or the focusing screen has moved or popped out of place. Because if the pictures are sharp but the viewfinder is not, it has to be some adjustment from the focusing screen or above.

Exactly what did you do to accomplish this? Focus screens are very fragile. I hope you didn't trash it.

I removed it with a pair of tweezers and cleaned it using a hand pump air blower

Fungus inside it is a possibility

There a possibility that fongus can grow inside?

What if you accidentally replaced the focusing screen upside down? Or that the little spacers under it were lost in the cleaning process...

I ended up taking it to a shop for an estimate. They said they have to readjust the diopter, but it'll cost 130$. Is that reasonable?

I assume they mean the diopter isn't adjusting correctly, and not that they're charging you $130 just to turn it?

While I wouldn't love shelling out $130 bucks, considering a sensor cleaning will set you back $65, I think what they're quoting you sounds reasonable.
