What is exactly the meaning of "the stock and zoom lense"? Are they kit lenses 18-55 and 55-200 (they are often sold with the DX cameras as a "bundled" stuff) by any chance? If it is so, and you've got at least some modestly built tripod, then no problem - you're sufficiently equipped for the job...
Oh, yeah, study these articles:

Hey Montana, focal length and weather creates variable try is iso100 aperture/f-3.5 or larger then try a ss of 1/500 then adjust ss as needed for darker or brighter pic

search in the "post your moon shots" thread, i use 100 ISO and have tried loads of other F and shutter settings, my best ones are hand held for some reason?

good luck

I've took a few pictures of the moon, I find using a tripod and a remote shutter work best,

If you take the picture hand held, then try and lean against something so you can get a steady shot.

This picture I had the ISO on 100, F11 and shutter speed 200
And using a 70/300mm lens
